# Reporting or blocking someone

> How to report a behaviour or block a user, what happens next, and how to report a directory tag.

## When to use them

Report when something breaks the rules (deception, harassment, inappropriate content, an attempted scam). Block when you don't want to hear from someone again — no explanations needed.

## If it isn't a safety problem

If you simply don't want to hear from someone again, you don't need to go this far: **blocking** does that job, it is silent, reversible and opens no case — [stop seeing someone](https://tegaria.com/en/help/stop-seeing-someone). Reporting out of taste muddies the signal we use to protect people who really need it.

## How it's done

Open the person's three-dot menu (⋮): you'll find it on their card, on their full profile and in an agreement's chat. There you have **"Report"** and **"Block"**.

Reporting requires a [verified identity](https://tegaria.com/en/help/verify-your-identity), because it opens a case. Blocking does not, because it is your own protection and accuses nobody.

## What happens next

- **Report**: you'll see the confirmation that it was sent and our team reviews it; if the breach is confirmed, action is taken on the reported account — the usual measure is a [temporary use restriction](https://tegaria.com/en/help/use-restriction), with an end date and a right of appeal. The other person is not told who reported them, and you are not told the outcome.
- **A report blocks as well.** You stop crossing paths and your open conversations close, with everything that entails: [stop seeing someone](https://tegaria.com/en/help/stop-seeing-someone). That block shows up in "Blocked users" as **"Blocked when you reported"** and you can undo it whenever you want — but **unblocking does not withdraw the report**: it runs its course all the same.

## Reporting a directory tag

Motivation tags can be reported too: from the tag, tap "Report this hashtag", pick the reason — "Discriminatory or sensitive", "Trademark or impersonation", "Spam or contact details" or "Other" — and tap "Send report". Reporting a tag **blocks nobody**: it is content, not a person.
