# Create your search profile

> How to say what you're looking for — area, budget, type of living arrangement — so compatible listings find you. Searching is free.

## Before you start

Go to app.tegaria.com with the tenant role. On Tegaria you don't dig through a board: you publish **what you're looking for** and the system brings you the listings that fit. Searching is always free.

## Step by step

1. Create your search profile: who you are and what you're looking for. Take care of your **photo** and **description** — clear and honest, they're the first thing the landlord sees — and fill in "Age", "Employment Status" and "Profession": many landlords expect them.
2. **Area**: search for the area where you want to live and **pick it from the suggestions list**; a polygon will appear on the map with **blue dots on its edges — drag them** to stretch or shrink the area to your needs. The wider it is, the more listings can fit (with no active search you'll see "Your radar is off").
3. **Budget and conditions**: what you can pay and what you need.
4. **Rental type you're looking for** — you can pick several: "Rent Room" (private, sharing common areas), "Rent Entire Property", "Room rental - Collaborative" (a reduced price in exchange for dedicating hours to help around the house) or "Roommates" (like-minded people to rent a home together).
5. **Living preferences**: grade each criterion as "Must have", "Nice to have" or "No preference" — [how they work](https://tegaria.com/en/help/living-preferences).
6. Optionally, add your [search motivation](https://tegaria.com/en/help/search-motivation).
7. Publish the profile. Publishing your search costs nothing.

## If it won't let you save

- Missing required fields are marked **in red** ("This field is required"): go through the form until you find them.
- **The rental type**: if you see "You must select at least one rental type.", tick at least one on the list from step 4.
- **The area**: you must pick it from the suggestions list and adjust the polygon. If the notice says "The drawn zone is too small.", enlarge it by dragging the dots; if it says "Zone too large (>10km)", shrink it.

## After publishing

Compatible listings appear under your search and we notify you when a new one shows up. If nothing comes up yet, here are [the reasons and the tweaks](https://tegaria.com/en/help/why-no-results-yet). To like a listing you'll need a [verified identity](https://tegaria.com/en/help/verify-your-identity).

## Pausing or changing your search

Tap your search's card to edit it (area, budget, criteria) or use "More options" → "Hide profile" to pause it: you stop appearing to landlords until you publish it again. All at no cost.
